Both Christianity and Islam started out innocently enough as non-Jew appropriations of our Jewish people’s ancestors and sacred ancestral writings. Although everyone had taken it to mean Israel, Paul writes instead, “The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, ‘In you all the nations shall be blessed.’ ” On that basis, he arrives at the bracing conclusion:
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, and there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” The power of an orator who can, in this way, fuse feeling and doctrine is immense. (After hearing Trotsky speak in the nineteen-tens, my great-grandfather’s brothers were converted from Orthodox Judaism to a Jewish-inflected Bolshevism.)
Trotsky himself had seen that the pragmatist follower who lacks true belief usually ends up on the other side; a passionate believer who lacks pragmatic planning skills usually ends up dead. This silence has led a handful of scholars to insist that Paul knew no earthly Jesus at all. But it’s possible that Jesus was simply more important to Paul as a risen God than as an admirable man.”

Decades ago, modern neuroscience studies into “consciousness” or “self awareness” discovered that a human baby doesn’t begin to discover a sense of my “self” as opposed to my “experience” of life in whole until around 2 to 3 years of age. Before then, a baby experiences life as I am everything I am experiencing through my bodily senses. This is why babies ponder so deeply on the movement of their feet in front of them, just as much as they ponder the waving or touching of another human’s hand before them.
What has fascinated both mystics and scientists throughout human history is how this consciousness of “self” – of “I” separate from “others”, of “I” separate from my “body” (my “soul”) – develops within humans and, to varying degrees, within our non-human relatives. We have to ask questions to understand: Is it an energy matrix formed by the collective cells of the body, that finds its formation in communal constructed thoughts? Or is our individual body’s “self” derived outside of individual us, as part of the energetic fabric of life itself?
One has to wonder if even the creator “God” knows, or is trying to understand him/her/itself as well – through our feeble limited sentient minds! Torah teaches that “at the beginning” of shaped human recognizable spacetime physical reality the “breath” of the Creator god hovering over the shapeless abyss of “land” (the primordial elements) and said “let there be light”. Then, the Creator god had to separate endless light from the endless darkness, in order to bring human recognizable shapes to physical spacetime reality.
And NO WHERE does our Jewish people’s Torah say that THIS “creation” was done for our future humankind, still to be created, upon a small planet Earth orbiting a sun, being orbited by a moon, in an immense universe of stars and galaxies!
