The Jewish people’s Torah has always said that the people/tribes of Israel had our founding event as a unique indigenous people in the land of Moab. On that day that Moshe spoke to the people of Israel in Moab! And that this was a promise made to our ancestors that came before us by Y-HWH to eventually happen (in Moab).
The Canaan nation of Moab was located in the southern half of what is now the Hashemite Kingdom 🇵🇸 of Hejaz Arabia’s colonial Jordan 🇵🇸🇯🇴 upon our Canaan lands. From here, the people of Israel pushed northward and across from the river to the sea, forcing the northern nations of Canaan further northward, wherein the Canaan kingdoms of Israel and Judah were established in self-determining sovereignty.
Abraham was known as ha’Ivri in Mesopotamia, before he and family returned to the lands of Canaan, because his family spoke Ivrit, our Canaanite Hebrew language, as a mother tongue and neighboring Aramaic as a second language. What non-Indigenous academics tend to do is confuse what parts of Torah are historical references and what parts are origin myths about lived history.
Hence, the idea that ancient Israelis invaded and conquered a foreign land to us. Which is still being pushed by the latest form of antisemitism targeting Jews/Israelis today, now labeled as antiZionism. Ancient Canaanite peoples, like ancient Native American peoples, struggled in battles over territorial land boundaries. Today, only the Jews remain as the last surviving still intact nation of Canaan.
When Jews say “land back”, our word for this is “Zion”! Hence, the Jewish people’s unrelenting, generational, ever looking for the opportunity act of “Zionism”. Hence, after the British-Hashemite 🇬🇧🇵🇸 post-WW1 militarized occupation of Israel for their colonial “Mandate for Palestine”, our Jewish people’s smuggling in weapons to freedom fight (for near two decades) for the “liberation” of Israel – which miraculously happened in 1948. “Oh, Jerusalem, if I forget you….”!!!
Is the Jewish peoples Torah influenced by genetic ancestral memories? Let’s test this idea! In order to address this question, we must first understand Torah on its own terms.
Meaning, understanding the inherent Canaan indigenous nature of Torah, outside of the influence of Christianity upon our Jewish people’s sacred ancestral writings. Unlike the Christian Gospels, wherein the same story is repeated in differing ways from book to book, our Jewish people’s Torah is meant to be chanted and understood as one book.
Thus, the scroll of Bereshit (Genesis), Shemot (Exodus), Vayikra (Leviticus), Bamidbar (Numbers), to the Jewish people’s founding constitutional scroll of D’varim (Deuteronomy) is meant to be chanted as one complete (multi-voiced and often contradictory) singular story from beginning to end. SO, TOO, with the sections of origin stories within the scroll of Bereshit (Genesis, “at the beginning of”).
It is HERE, within the two stories of the Creation of land environments – the Six Days story followed by the Garden of Eden story – and the stories of Cain and Abel, of the Tower of Babel, of Noah and the Flood, and of the Table of Nations from Noah’s children that we can address this question of genetic ancestral memory being playing out in Jewish people’s sacred ancestral writings of our ancient Canaan indigenous origin stories.
What do we mean by this, you ask? Let’s start “at the beginning”….
The first creation story is about the shaping of the entire known lands of topsoil, skies, and waters from out of the primordial elements that Elohim’s breath hovers “upon”. This story is our ancient Jewish cosmologist’s written attempt to explain a “Big Bang” theory within his/her mind about how/why Life as we know it exists. Within this “at the beginning” story, we are made aware of the elohim (“the children gods of El”, in all Canaan language dialects) shaping the human species upon the known lands “in our image, male and female”. Then, there is the first Shabbat, “day of resting” from creative labor, as a final form OF creativity, before the new work week of creating begins (Torah, in our Canaanite Hebrew language, 101).
The second creation story that follows this first planetary Shabbat is a Levant specific Indigenous people’s story of creation. In this story, the assigned Eloah, Y-HWH (land god for Creator god El), creates an adam (a human nefesh) from the adamah (the topsoil) of his assigned Levant land and places this human into a garden that he now creates upon his land. What purpose did Y-HWH have for doing this? So that the human would “work” (maintain) and “protect” this garden of Y-HWH. In this Jewish story of creation, the Creator god brings every shaped from the adamah nefesh species to the adam (the human) for a “name”, but failed to find a species of non-human that is reproductively compatible. Hence, the splitting of adam into Adam ish (male) and Chavah isha (female, Chavah means “lifegiver” as in offspring producing).
Okay, we here at Jewish Indigenous Rights Advocacy – JIRA know that some humans not yet successfully colonized by colonial Christianity and colonial Islam have got to be listening! So, WE WILL continue our d’var (our Jewish teaching on Torah)….
The children of Adam and Chavah turn out to be Cain and Abel. These children have a difference in understanding about our created world. Cain was a forager for nourishment survival and Abel was a herder of non-human animals that survive by plant nutrition and are food for predatory nefesh, like humans. Cain killed his brother Abel over jealousy that Y-HWH, the ruling land-G-d of the Levant, preferred eating offered meat over offered vegetables. And, HERE, is where the ties to the two stories of parallel creation events first come to meet each other! Cain the forager has to face Y-HWH because his brother’s “blood” cries out to Y-HWH.
What happens to Cain?!!! ANYONE?!!! Any Jews who are still NOT Christianized, meaning successfully influenced by Christian dominated socially enforced interpretation of our Jewish people’s sacred ancestral Canaan ancestors’ writings? Hello, anyone?! The Torah NEVER coughs, folks. EVERY word that is in this scroll is there for a reason!!! Let’s take a look (and this SHOULD be so obvious EVERYWHERE upon our shared planet Earth)….
“And Cain went forth from before Y-HWH” who marked him for survival “and he dwelt in the land of the wanderers, to the northeast of Eden.” He intermarried with the people created by this other god’s land and had children. Cain, the Homo Sapiens human, became so prosperous amongst the Homo Neanderthal humans that he not only interbred with, that a city is NAMED after him. The city was named after his son, Enoch, according to Torah. WHO are these people who were NOT created by Y-HWH to “work” and to “protect” his garden of Eden that Cain the son of Adam and Chavah found a place amongst?
We KNOW, Christian and Muslim interpretive indoctrination MUST rule this Earth. Even the atheists, the rejectors of Christian and Muslim perceived reality, CANNOT see Indigenous peoples’ worldwide understanding, even into this 21st century CE. Why? After Antiochus the king of the Seleucid Empire had defeated Egypt, he returned and went up against the warriors of Israel and Jerusalem with a great multitude. He proudly entered into the sanctuary, and took away the golden altar, and the oil vessel of light, and all the vessels thereof. He even took away the table of the cakes of bread, and the pouring vessels, and the vials, and the vessels for burning incense, and the veil, and the crown, and the golden ornaments that were before the sacred room of the Creator god, all of which he pulled off and took away with him. And when the Hasmonean priests rose up with the Pharisees (the proto-rabbis) that backed them to fight back against the Greeks, the Hasmoneans emerged victorious over them, and chased them out of the House of ha’Shem. They found one pot of oil, hidden, that still had the seal of the High Priest upon it, which the Greeks had not touched. And there was sufficient oil there to light the oil vessel for only one day. But a miracle occurred, alleged our Jewish ancestors, for the lit oil burned for eight days, until new sanctified oil could be produced from the land of Israel! The next year the wise elders instituted those days and made them a festival of increasing lights with chants of hallel and special thanksgiving in prayer and blessings. (Shabbat 21b:10)
Thus, we LEARN from this history of our people in a mishna with regard to damages: In the case of a spark that emerges from under a hammer, and went out of the artisan’s workshop, and caused damage, the one who struck the hammer is liable. Similarly, in the case of a camel that is laden with flax and it passed through the public domain, and its flax entered into a store, and caught fire from the storekeeper’s lamp, and set fire to the building, the camel owner is liable. Since his flax entered into another’s domain, which he had no permission to enter, all the damages were caused due to his negligence. However, if the storekeeper placed his lamp outside the store and it set fire to the flax, the storekeeper is liable, as he placed the lamp outside his domain where he had no right to place it. (Shabbat 21b:11, Sefaria)
There are three meanings to this Chanukah festival teaching: One, miracles happen because the spark of life within a single human causes human actions to create a miracle. Two, the fire of an Indigenous people is NOT ever fully able to be quenched. We rise from the ashes of destruction to light the ner tamid yet again for the sake of our ancestral lifeways! Let’s start this Jewish Indigenous teaching with BASIC Levant history so that our following short segments on the Jewish people’s sacred names for G-d make sense to EVERYONE who reads our post here.
Jews are a Canaan indigenous people, the very last surviving one. All peoples of ancient Canaan shared mutually intelligible dialects of the Canaanite language. Canaan was what the Greeks referred to generically as Phoenicia from afar. Post-Roman empire colonial languages employ the same exonym in the form of “Palestine” today.
Jews, like all nations of ancient Canaan, began as a unified people with a polytheistic Canaanite pantheon of the gods. At the top of all Canaan nations’ versions of this pantheon sat El Elyon, the Creator high-god. And for each land of Canaan and beyond Canaan, different land gods – the elohim, “children gods of El and Asherah – were assigned their portion of the created land to rule upon and it was the elohim (children gods) that created the human nations, the various peoples upon the land with their uniquenesses.
During the First Temple period and into the Second Temple period, Jews were polytheists like all other peoples of Canaan. Though we had our separate (meaning, not yet redacted into a singular scroll) versions of our sacred origin stories and our competing beit ha’miqdash (the dwelling house for Y-HWH our god), these sacred places had a stone with fire upon it that represented Y-HWH and a fertility tree that represents Asherah. The northern kingdom of the people of Israel had their version of our sacred origin stories, and the southern kingdom had our version of each story.
Then, the northern kingdom was forcibly assimilated into the Assyrian people in identity, language, ethno-religion, and laws – prompting our later Torah’s lament of the “lost tribes” of Israel.
It was the utter destruction of the northern kingdom of Israel that led to a fundamental cosmological change in world view for the southern Judean kingdom of Israel. But, it was a slow growth change! Judea had to be conquered, too – by Babylon. The difference with Babylonians is that they refused to assimilate the Jewish people into their people’s ethno-religious identity.
So, the Jewish people grew in self-understanding and cultural exposure in Babylon, while ever longing for a return to Jerusalem (the heart of our Jewish people’s sacred ancestral land). Babylon’s ethno-religious and civil lifeways had an immense impact upon the Jews who eventually returned to our Canaan land of Israel to build the Second Temple to Y-HWH our G-d.
It is during the Second Temple period that the priests of Y-HWH’s sacred dwelling place upon the land of Israel, began to compile and redact the origin stories of our people – both northern and southern kingdom versions – into a vassal treaty of devoted nationhood with Y-HWH as the only eloah (“god”) for our Jewish people. Thus, El Elyon and Y-HWH became one and the same to Jews after this development by the priests.
This began with the scroll of D’varim (“words”) that is our Jewish people’s version of a national constitution. What followed is a preservation of both northern and southern versions of our Israeli people’s origin stories in a complex, repetitive, and often conflicting in details redacted scroll of Bereshit (“at the beginning”). Then, the past pre-Torah divine civil laws up to Torah scroll redaction of present and past divine civil laws followed in preserved conflict in subsequent stories (meaning, the rest of the “books of Moses”).
It is HERE that we can now discuss the “names of G-d”, singular, and the names of gods/goddesses, plural. Eloah is the generic name for a “god”, any god. Elohim is the plural of Eloah. Ba’al and Y-HWH were competing Semitic children gods of El Elyon, who is the “father” Creator god. For Jews, El Elyon and Y-HWH became one and the same by the time of the Roman Empire’s occupation of Judah-Israel. These three names just mentioned are direct names of various Canaanite peoples’ gods. In translations of our Jewish people’s Torah, the understanding of our Canaanite Hebrew wordplay is often lost, especially in meanings.
Here is where the proto-to-present rabbis (the “teachers” of Jewish people’s lifeways and laws) come into their role as leaders of the now defeated (in self-determining sovereignty) people of Israel! There is a reason that Jesus the Jew of Nazareth who was killed by the Romans for inciting Jewish Zionism (self-determining sovereignty upon our Zion) only knew of the redacted scrolls of the Law and Prophets. The later Jewish rabbis had to finish the work of the Temple priests with the eventual scroll of Ketuvim (“writings”) that makes up our Jewish people’s TaNaKh! In a further effort to preserve our Jewish people of/from Canaan from assimilated extinction, these same rabbis eventually wrote down our oral law traditions – the Talmuds of our Jewish people’s not “canonized” indigenous wisdom stories and arguments on experienced case laws.
We know! So, if Jews weren’t ALWAYS monotheistic, then HOW and WHEN did this happen for the Jewish people of Israel? The answer: Many generations under subjugation to the religions the northern Aegean created colonial Christianity and southern Arabian created colonial Islam. It was only AFTER the writings of the Sephardi Jew Maimonides, post-13th century CE (A.D.), that the Jewish people collectively embraced a pantheistic form of monotheism.
THIS is the modern Rabbinic “Orthodox” Judaism, Judah-people-ism, that the world is – KIND OF – familiar with! For the Jewish people post-Roman defeat have ALWAYS had to present a Christian/Islam appeasing version of ourselves for the sake of survival for our dispersed minority people. That is UNTIL our 1948 forced decolonization and restored self-determining sovereignty upon Zion, our sacred ancestral Canaan land of Israel! NOW, we get to teach this world what our sacred Jewish people’s lifeways are actually all about.
Yemenite vs Samaritan vs Modern Hebrew (Can they understand each other?)
Here is a perfect opportunity to learn our Jewish people’s Phoenician language. Why did we write “Phoenician”? Because, the “Phoenician alphabet” is our Canaan peoples’ proto-Canaanite alef bet. The word “Phoenicia” is a Greek exonym for all of Canaan, a regional descriptive word for our Indigenous peoples’ region – like the European-Arab colonial word “Palestine” for our Canaan Indigenous region.
Samaritan Jews still speak and write to this day paleo-Hebrew (proto-Canaanite), but with Arabic pronunciation influences from repeated Islamic colonizations upon Zion, our Jewish people’s sacred ancestral Canaan land of Israel.
Yemeni Jews (Teimani) still speak and write to this day Hebrew (that grew out of proto-Hebrew) as it was pronounced mutually intelligible between Canaan language dialects during the existence of Canaan, Judah-Israel (Ya’akov), Amon, Moab, and Edom (Ishamael). Without Arabic pronunciation influences.
Modern Hebrew pronunciation of our fully revived Canaanite Hebrew language is based heavily upon Sephardi-Mizrahi pronunciation of Hebrew. Sephardi-Mizrahi Jews are the returned diaspora Jews from the Iberian Peninsula, South Asia, North Africa, and Arab colonized lands (the greater “Middle East”).

Because of his short experience living with Arabs, Malcolm X had no idea that he had “white” privilege in the Middle East as a “black” American. Whereas, Eldridge Cleaver, on the other hand, did invest sufficient enough time living amongst Arabs to come to this realization.
