Hello, I am Tsefanyahu, and I have a fresh story to tell on this full moon. I have just been reminded, painfully, that even on the full moon there is a lot upon the land that resides within the dark. So, always be ready to fight for your life, especially while on a walkabout with your dog at night. The story goes like this\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a veteran of human wars and have my share of service connected injuries. So, I walk daily at night, three times each night, with my dogs. It keeps me healthy. This was my walk with my Catahoula Leopard dog. The trail was quiet tonight, until we walked upon an opossum that was already playing dead in our path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I sensed nothing, and my dog sensed nothing, other than the opossum. So, we walked up to it, and circled around it. I shined a flash upon it and saw that it had been bitten. That\u2019s when the attack happened from the back. We Jews have a saying, because of our native worldview is formed by this, that the future always sneaks up from behind you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So it was for both my dog and I. We both heard the approach at the same time, and turned 180 degrees together. Too, late, the dog waiting in the darkness was already on top of us. (Pause, for a note: Thankfully, it was alone \u2013 no pack with it!) My Catahoula immediately accepted the challenge, and I went into combat mode to separate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understand, I was already in between them and in this fight myself. It went on for several long minutes. The two dogs trying to find an advantage over the other, while I kept trying to hit the soft spots of the attacking dog. It ended up with both of them dragging me into the dirt with them, and as an elder my energy level is proving no match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, I managed to get the right strikes in and they separated, giving me the advantage to drop into a primate stance and challenge the attacking dog. Now we were all back on our feet, but the battle was over. My left hand is bitten good, my Catahoula dog\u2019s right leg is bitten good, but the dog that attacked us likely has the worst injuries, because I wasn\u2019t playing around!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we got back home, the other two dogs already knew. They could smell it on us. I\u2019m the alpha dog of our house, so they let me clean myself up, while they cleaned their brother dog up. \u2026 This was not the post that I hoped to share on this full moon. But, it is instructive. If you\u2019re going to walkabout at night, always be ready \u2013 even when the future sneaks up upon you from behind!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After our return, my wife was so angry, that she put on her shirt and pants and was heading for the door. I had to stop her, for this battle was over already.
